Selecting and Using Water Bed Heaters

!±8± Selecting and Using Water Bed Heaters

Waterbed accessories like pumps, conditioners, sheets, and water bed heaters are usually overlooked by first time waterbed buyers . Most of these waterbed accessories are always required but a water bed heater can be an optional choice.

Of course, whether or not you need to purchase an accessory such as a waterbed heater depends on the type of climate you live in. If you live in the colder regions of the world, or if you experience chilly winter seasons, a waterbed heater is indispensable. Water can easily absorb the coldness from its surroundings. Therefore, waterbeds can become uncomfortable and intolerably cold to sleep in. A heater will ensure that you'll be sleeping a warm and comfortable mattress all through the night. Whether it's raining, snowing or freezing outside, you can be assured that you will not experience cold nights in your bed. Additionally, a waterbed that is sufficiently heated also works well in improving a person's blood circulation while sleeping and soothes tiredness and body pains.

Heaters are made out of a set of coils wrapped in plastic casing. It also has its own temperature sensor and thermostatic controller to keep the heat under control. Generally, a waterbed heater heats the water until it reaches about 28 degrees or equivalent to a person's normal body temperature. The thermostatic controller allows the user to modify the water bed heater's settings according to his preferred temperature. For instance, if the weather isn't too cold, the user can adjust the thermostat controller to lower levels to cool down the water.

There are three main types of heaters. These are standard cap and bulb heaters, solid state heaters and softside heaters. A standard cap and bulb water bed heater makes use of ethylene gas which is contained inside a copper wire. A solid state heater has a computer chip inside which controls the temperature of the water. Generally, solid state waterbed heaters are considered to be more efficient than other types. Solid state water bed heaters are also useful energy savers. On the other hand, a soft side water bed heater is especially designed for soft side waterbed mattress. This type of waterbed heater operates on low energy levels that are only suitable for soft side waterbeds.

Constant use of a waterbed heater may result in a very high electric bill so it is important to keep an eye on the temperature controls of the heating system. For instance, the heater's settings can be adjusted at lower levels during warm weather. If you live in a tropical country, it may not necessary to use a water bed heater at all.

The use of water bed heaters requires great care and attention. Like any home appliances that combine electricity with water, it is very important to pay special attention to the manufacturer's guidelines and reminders with regards to the proper use of the appliance. Read the water bed heaters manual from cover to cover and make sure that you understand all the instructions.
